SS Rajamouli's RRR wins Best Original Song for "Naatu Naatu" at the Golden Globes 2023
The intricate choreography and musical narrative of "Naatu Naatu" made it famous around the world
On January 11, 2023, India won its first-ever Golden Globe for the song "Natu Natu" from SS Rajamouli's "RRR." The 80th Golden Globe Awards, which are regarded as a significant forerunner to the Oscars, recognised SS Rajamouli's popular historical epic RRR in two categories.
The song "Naatu Naatu," which became something of an anthem for followers of director SS Rajamouli's RRR, won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song. It was composed by MM Keeravani and performed by Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj. The historical epic has also been nominated for an 80th Golden Globe Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
The film RRR was also a nominee for "best picture—non-English." The historical drama "Argentina, 1985" by Santiago Mitre won the best picture in a foreign language award, beating Telugu Blockbuster.
The French-Dutch coming-of-age drama "Close" and the Korean romantic mystery movie "Decision To Leave" were also nominated in this category.
Jr. NTR and Ram Charan's dance number "Naatu Naatu" was up against Rihanna's "Lift Me Up" from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Taylor Swift's "Carolina" from Where the Crawdads Sing. Other contenders included "Ciao Papa" from Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Lady Gaga's "Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick.
