An expected melodious beginning to the Golden Jubilee Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Samaroh. The audience were completely absorbed in the magic woven by the Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan. What was more engrossing was the great performance by the two star progenies – Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, the sons of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Sarod maestro and Shubhalaxmi Khan, the well-known Bharatnatyam dancer; stars in their own right.
The evenings proceedings started with the traditional Saraswati Vandana. The star progenies, Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan presented the first melodious and captivating sequence on the
Sarod, for the evening. Accompanied by
Tabla players, Anuvrat Chatterjee and Sateesh Talwalkar, they gave life to
Raag Jhinjhoti.
This was followed by the much awaited event, a performance by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. As usual, the performance by the maestro wowed and captivated the audience. Accompanied by Anuvrat Chatterjee and Sateesh Talwalkar on the
Tabla, the maestro presented the
Raag Zila Kafi and the Rajasthani
Raag Maand. Subsequently, he guided his
Sarod to the tune of the Rabindranath Tagores
Ekla Chalo Re, with a flavor being added through the mix of
Bihoo, an Assamese folk tune.
Finally, at the culmination of the program, the maestro, Amjad Ali performed the
Raag Kirwani with his two sons, Amaan and Ayaan, accompanied by Anuvrat and Sateesh on the
Tabla.
The last part of the event was a felicitation of Subhalaxmi Khan, the maestro himself, their two sons, Amaan and Ayaan; Anuvrat and Sateesh.
