Record 1.3 Cr Dengue Cases Worldwide in 2024, Says WHO
If current trends continue, annual dengue cases could reach 5 billion by 2050, WHO warns
November 5, 2024 - Amid a significant surge in dengue cases in cities across Rajasthan like Udaipur and Jaipur, New Delhi and more, the World Health Organization (WHO) has claimed that a record 1.3 crore dengue cases have been reported worldwide this year. Brazil and other South American countries have been the most impacted.
Cities around India have been reporting a spike in dengue cases. Dengue cases have been rising annually, according to data from WHO. The organisation has said that the number of dengue cases is increasing year by year and the main cause of this is the rising global temperatures due to climate change. If the current trends continue, annual dengue cases could reach 5 billion by 2050, it warned.
The 12.06 million cases reported globally in 2024 are more than twice the number recorded all of last year.
