Dengue Cases Cross 100 in Udaipur
Medical teams are on high alert...
The dengue outbreak in Udaipur has escalated, with the number of patients exceeding 100 between August 1 and September 5, 2024. The disease, initially confined to Jagdish Chowk in the walled city, is now spreading rapidly to areas such as Police Line, Madri, Rampura, Tekri, Mallatalai, Machhla Magra, Fatehpura, and Hiran Magri Sector-14. After reporting 54 cases in Jagdish Chowk, the highest number of new cases has been recorded in the Police Line, with 13 patients.
Health Officials Conducting Surveys
In response to the rising numbers, the medical department has mobilized over 200 teams to conduct surveys throughout the city. Each team, consisting of two members, is working to raise awareness and address potential mosquito breeding sites. They are focusing on emptying rainwater from old tires, pots, and containers in about 30 to 50 homes daily. However, about 10% of the homes are refusing entry, citing good cleanliness, which has raised concerns among officials.
Since January 2024, Udaipur district has reported over 250 dengue cases. Within the city alone, which has a population of 600,000, 128 cases have been confirmed, and this number is rapidly increasing.
CMHO Shankar Bamaniya and other officials held a media briefing urging residents to maintain cleanliness and cooperate with survey teams. Dr. Bamaniya emphasized that during the monsoon season, mosquito-borne diseases like Dengue, Malaria, and Chikungunya become more common due to stagnant rainwater. Dengue mosquitoes lay eggs in clean water, which develop into larvae and then into adult mosquitoes within seven to ten days. Malaria mosquitoes take about seven days to spread the disease, making it crucial for residents to act quickly to prevent dengue outbreaks.
