Udaipur is currently facing a significant health crisis due to outbreaks of dengue and malaria. Many residents are falling ill, resulting in overcrowding at hospitals and doctors residences.

Maharana Bhupal Hospital 

Maharana Bhupal Hospital, the largest in the division, is experiencing alarming conditions. Around 400 new patients are being admitted daily. Approximately 50% of these patients are in the medicine ward and the pediatric department, suffering from seasonal diseases, dengue, and malaria.

The medicine ward is particularly overcrowded, with some beds shared by multiple patients. New arrivals are receiving treatment in the gallery outside the ward on the floor. As space becomes available, patients are being shifted to other departmental wards.

Crisis in OPD

The outpatient department (OPD) is also facing a crisis. Daily visits are ranging between 7,000 and 9,000 patients. Long lines are forming at the medicine OPD, with many patients arriving even before it opens. A team of only eight to ten doctors is struggling to handle the heavy patient load.

Testing facilities are overwhelmed as well. Every third patient must provide blood and urine samples, creating long lines at the central lab and throughout the OPD. Patients are queuing from registration to sample collection, leading to delays in treatment.

Emergency Department 

As outpatient services close, the emergency department is seeing a steady influx of patients. Many are suffering from vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. Numerous patients require admission to wards, leading to long lines in the emergency department as well.
