Free Syringomyelia Treatment at RNT Saved Life of a Patient
This disease affects only 1 in ten 10,000 individuals, with successful treatment through surgery being possible for only a few
A team of medical expertise in the Neurosurgery department at RNT Medical College successfully treated Shiv Narayan, a 31-year-old resident of Chittorgarh, for “Syringomyelia,” a rare spinal cord condition. The complex operation was performed under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
Shiv Narayan's journey towards recovery was filled with challenges and financial constraints. Despite seeking treatment at renowned hospitals in Mumbai, where the estimated cost ranged from Rs 15 to 18 lakh, Shiv Narayan, financially weak, had nearly given up hope. However, the availability of free treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana at RNT Medical College proved to be a lifeline for him.
What is Syringomyelia?
Syringomyelia is a condition where a fluid-filled cyst, known as a syrinx, develops within the spinal cord, potentially causing damage as it expands over time.
The disease, Syringomyelia, posed severe challenges for Shiv Narayan, leading to a gradual loss of leg strength and extreme difficulty in walking as both legs stiffened. Even after consulting doctors at major hospitals across states, a viable solution remained elusive. Physicians emphasized the rarity of the condition, affecting only 1 in ten 10,000 individuals, with successful treatment through surgery being possible for only a few.
The successful operation, led by senior doctors of the neurosurgery department, Dr. Gaurav Jayaswal and his team, shows dedication of medical professionals at RNT Medical College.
