The health department in Rajasthan is on high alert due to the swift spread of the SARS virus (Severe acute respiratory syndrome) among children. The situation has prompted concerns as children are exhibiting symptoms akin to COVID, including difficulty in breathing in China. Although there is no available data on mortality rates at this point. Given the seriousness of the situation, Shubhra Singh, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, conducted a comprehensive review of the departmental preparations. This evaluation took place through a video conference held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
The increasing number of cases among children has raised alarms, necessitating a thorough assessment of the ongoing situation. The health department's proactive approach, led by ACS Shubhra Singh, aims to address and manage the potential challenges posed by the spread of the SARS virus among the younger population. Monitoring and adapting strategies in response to emerging developments remain crucial in ensuring the effective containment of the outbreak.
In the midst of these preparations, Dr. Ravi Prakash Mathur,Director (Public Health), Medical & Health Services, is scheduled to arrive in Udaipur on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. During his presence, a special mock drill is planned for around 11:00 AM., encompassing hospitals and primary health centers managed under the RNT Medical College.
Following this, another special review meeting is slated among officials at the district and block levels in Udaipur and Salumber to strategize and tackle the disease crisis. Subsequent to these discussions, a comprehensive meeting will be convened at a higher administrative level to ensure the thorough completion of preparations. This includes aspects such as the availability of oxygen and beds in hospitals operated under the department.
Dr. Shankarlal Bamaniya, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Udaipur, has conveyed that ACS Singh has issued directives to formulate an action plan within three days. This plan aims to address arrangements for disease prevention and treatment not only in Udaipur but also in other districts of the state.
Furthermore, Singh has recommended the appointment of a nodal officer at both the district and medical college levels. Additionally, there is a proposal to establish a Rapid Response Team at both division and district headquarters. The focus is on ensuring effective monitoring of various aspects, including the availability of beds, oxygen, testing facilities, medication, treatment options, human resources, and other essential health facilities across all hospitals.
