New Covid-19 Variant 'XEC': What are the Symptoms?

XEC was first identified in Germany in June

A new variant of Covid-19, named XEC, is spreading quickly across Europe and has appeared in 27 countries, including the UK, US, Denmark, and China. Health experts predict that it may become the dominant strain during the winter season.

XEC was first identified in Germany in June and is a hybrid of two Omicron subvariants – KS.1.1 and KP.3.3. KS.1.1 is already responsible for many Covid cases globally.

Symptoms of XEC Variant

The main symptoms of XEC include fever, sore throat, loss of appetite, and body aches. Other possible symptoms reported by experts are shortness of breath, headache, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Since XEC is part of the Omicron lineage, health experts are recommending people to stay protected by getting vaccinated and taking booster shots to prevent severe illness and hospitalization.
