MB Hospital: Special OPD for Domestic Violence Victims
MB Hospital has opened a special Outpatient Department (OPD) to support women victims of domestic violence and other atrocities. This facility was inaugurated on August 22, 2024, and has already helped 40 women. The hospital recognized the need for this OPD, understanding that women facing domestic abuse often suffer from mental and physical trauma that affects their health.
Located in room 132 of the hospital, this OPD was established with help from the Society for Women’s Action and Training Initiative (SWATI), a Gujarat-based NGO that provides legal assistance to these women.
The impact of violence on women’s health is clear from the complaints received at the OPD. Women seeking help often experience mental illness, dizziness, anaemia, high-risk pregnancies, insomnia, excessive sleep, blood pressure fluctuations at a young age, anxiety, and sexual harassment.
The OPD has received various cases, including a woman in her 20s who reported psychological distress due to mistreatment by her in-laws and another woman in her 30s facing similar issues.
The establishment of this OPD is a significant step towards addressing the needs of women who have faced violence and supporting their health and well-being.
