312 JN.1 cases so far recorded in India
India has found 511 new cases of a COVID variant, with 5 deaths. Currently, there are 4,440 active COVID cases in the country. This new variant has the same symptoms as earlier strains, like a runny nose, fever, sore throat, headache, and losing the sense of smell and taste.
The JN.1 sub-variant of the virus has been identified in 10 states and two Union Territories. Here are the numbers: Rajasthan (5), Kerala (147), Goa (51), Gujarat (34), Maharashtra (26), Tamil Nadu (22), Delhi (16), Karnataka (8), Telangana (2) and Odisha (1), as reported by the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG).
Until Tuesday, January 2,2024 there were 312 cases of the coronavirus sub-variant JN.1 in the country. Almost half of them, around 47%, were found in Kerala, according to data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). In Karnataka, district hospitals have resumed giving vaccines after receiving 30,000 doses of the precautionary Covid vaccine. Covid cases in India, particularly in Kerala, have been going up steadily since last month.
To control the spread of the Omicron sub-variant JN.1, both the Central and state governments have implemented measures.
