Rise in Seasonal Illnesses Amid Fluctuating Weather in Udaipur
The changing weather has led to a surge in cases of colds, coughs, fever, and viral infections. Hospitals are also seeing an increase in Dengue, Malaria, and persistent body pain cases, even after patients recover from fever. Eye, ear, and throat infections are also on the rise.
Significant Temperature Difference
The sudden rise in illnesses is due to the large gap between day and night temperatures. While daytime temperatures reach 30°C, nights drop to 12-13°C. This fluctuation is impacting people's health.
Overcrowded OPD at MB Hospital
The region’s MB Hospital is witnessing a daily influx of 5,000-6,000 patients in its OPD. On November 4, after Diwali, this number peaked at nearly 7,000. Lines at registration and medicine counters begin as soon as the OPD opens at 8:00 AM and continue until it closes at 2:00 PM. The medicine department alone handles 400-500 patients daily, compared to the usual 350-400.
Doctors Warn Against Self-Medication
Dr. R.L. Suman, Medical Superintendent of MB Hospital, advised against taking painkillers without a doctor’s consultation, as it can harm the body. He urged patients to consult a doctor immediately if they notice viral symptoms. He also recommended wearing warm clothing in the mornings and evenings to avoid catching a cold.
Patient Numbers Likely to Decrease by November-End
The number of patients is expected to reduce by the end of November. Currently, there are fewer cases compared to October, when stagnant rainwater caused a spike in dengue and malaria cases.
Colder Days Ahead
The Meteorological Department predicts a further drop in temperatures as North India experiences its first snowfall. On Monday night, Kashmir recorded snowfall, and the cold winds from the region are expected to increase the chill in the plains. However, severe winter conditions are still some time away.
