On Tuesday, October 15,2024, 28 new dengue cases were reported in Udaipur, bringing the total to 866. The increase in cases is concerning, especially with Chikungunya also spreading rapidly. 

Notice Issued to CMHO

Director Public Health, Dr. Ravi Prakash Mathur issued a notice to CMHO Dr. Shankarlal Bamaniya, requesting an explanation for the rising patient numbers. Additionally, three CMHOs and PMOs from different locations in the state have been suspended, although the reasons for their suspension remain undisclosed.

Need for Timely Preventive Actions

Dr. Mathur emphasized that if necessary preventive measures had been taken on time, this situation could have been avoided. Udaipur has not fully complied with the instructions from the state-level team, indicating a lack of seriousness in controlling seasonal diseases. The CMHO has been given two days to explain the negligence, with a warning of potential disciplinary action.

Holiday Impact on Testing

During the recent holidays, the number of tests conducted dropped significantly. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, dengue cases were limited to 2, 3, and 4 due to fewer tests. However, the latest report showed a sudden spike, raising the total to 866 positive cases. The department believes that increased testing is a major reason for the rise in reported cases, as there were only 623 dengue patients in 2023.
