‘Vaccine Can Cut Risk of Cervical Cancer by Upto 98%’
Gynaecologist Dr Veena Acharya highlights the benefits of taking Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine
November 19, 2024 - In a public health awareness programme organised at the Human Leprosy Ashram's centre in Ramgarh, Jaipur, senior gynaecologist Dr Veena Acharya highlighted the benefits of taking Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer. She said that in the country, a woman succumbs to cervical cancer every eight minutes.
Dr Acharya explained that this cancer is caused by HPV and receiving the HPV vaccine between the ages of nine and 14 can reduce the risk of cervical cancer by up to 98%. She clarified that there are no reported side effects of the vaccine.
Dr Acharya also informed that with the help of a machine developed using Artificial Intelligence (AI), the early stages of this cancer can be detected within seconds, making timely treatment possible.
