Constant growth of aquatic weed in Udaipur lakes has become a matter of concern for Lake Development Authority.

Aquatic weed is continuously spreading in the lakes of Udaipur. Clearing of this weed from the lakes is an expensive task and lakhs of rupees are spent but in vain. Tej Shankar Paliwal, member of Lake Development Authority has requested CM Vasundhara Raje for making provisions for grass-carp fish in the lakes. In his letter to the CM, Paliwal mentioned that there is a speedy growth of weed in the lakes. Since lakhs of rupees are spent to clean the lakes and the weed still grows, getting grass-carp fish can solve the problem to a great extent. This species of fish can eat away weed three times more than their own body weight.

Grass carp are used to control growth of aquatic plants. With the breeding of grass-carp in Udaipur lakes, the growth of aquatic weed can be controlled which can contribute a lot in cutting down the expenses incurred over lake cleaning process.

Paliwal also drew CM’s attention towards illegal fishing and demanded that strict action be taken towards people who do illegal fishing in Udaipur lakes.
