After days of unrest in Lakadwas, following an alleged rape of a woman belonging to Dangi community by suspected man from Kalbeliya community, and an armed attack on the Kalbeliya families last week, today a group of Kalbeliya people protested outside collectorate.
They demanded strict action against those who burnt their houses, assaulted them and destroyed their belongings. The attack left 8 families of Kalbeliya homeless and forced to be dependent on other kalbeliya families.
Heeralal Kalbeliya, president of the association demanded compensation of the loss faced by the victims and warned the administration for more aggressive protest if their demands were not fulfilled.
The protestors said, “It is irrational and absolutely incorrect to punish the whole community for the wrongdoing of an individual.”
Police had lodged report against more than 100 people out of which 27 were arrested and sent to judicial custody.
While the kalbeliyas were protesting, a group of people belonging to Dangi community also gathered outside the collectorate.
