In an effort to revive the arid hills of Chachakota near Mahi Dam's backwaters in Banswara district, Rajasthan, the Forest Department has planned a green initiative. Over the span of two months, the department, in collaboration with local villagers, has excavated 25,000 trenches. These trenches are strategically designed to capture and channel rainwater, ensuring it reaches the newly planted vegetation.

The initiative aims to introduce a diverse range of plant species, with 13 varieties planned for planting in the region. To facilitate optimal water distribution to these plants, 15,000 additional trenches and two anicuts have been constructed. These measures are intended to enhance water retention on the hills themselves.
