Rajasthan government introduces 6% reservation for most backward castes among OBCs
21% Reservation is already allotted to OBCs within the state
In a recent development, Rajasthan's Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot revealed that the state government is preparing to implement a significant policy change. The announcement came on Wednesday as Gehlot shared the plan to introduce a 6% reservation quota for the Most Backward Castes, specifically within the framework of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). This proposed initiative aims to address social inequalities and promote inclusivity in the state.
"A survey will be conducted by the OBC commission to identify the most backward castes in the OBC category and the commission will submit the report in a time-bound manner. With this, the most backward castes will get more opportunities for education and government jobs." CM tweeted.
According to sources, this fresh quota allocation will supplement the prevailing 21% reservation already allotted to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Rajasthan. Gehlot noted that various organizations representing SC and ST communities have been consistently pushing for reservations based on population proportions. The government is diligently examining this request, he added. Elaborating further, the Chief Minister pointed out that the Rajasthan government has already removed the immovable property criterion within the 10 percent reservation designated for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category.
As per data shared by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, approximately 42% of teaching positions intended for candidates from OBC, SC, and ST backgrounds in 45 central universities are vacant. Out of the total 7,033 sanctioned posts allocated for these categories, 3,007 positions remain unfilled.
