In the past three months, the distribution companies (Discoms) have successfully made 391,000 service lines visible from the main road as part of their campaign to prevent power theft and facilitate direct access to these service lines. During this campaign, it was discovered that there were 1,438 houses where electricity theft was taking place through methods such as cutting or other unauthorized means.

A fine of INR 1.85 crore was imposed on the defaulters, and an amount of INR 88.08 lakh has been successfully recovered by Ajmer Discom as of June. These actions were taken as part of their ongoing efforts to minimize power wastage. It is noteworthy that the corporation is consistently striving to reduce power wastage through various initiatives.

The service lines connecting the electric pole to the meter are not easily visible, as they run over the houses. This arrangement creates a potential for electricity theft. Additionally, in several houses, the electricity meters are installed indoors, which further increases the risk of tampering and theft. By ensuring visibility of these service lines, the lineman will have a clear view from the outside, enabling them to detect any unauthorized connections and prevent power theft by cutting off such connections.
