Peaceful procession will ensure that a message of normalcy in Udaipur goes out to the world and proceedings to relax curfew can be initiated - Dinesh MN, IPS

The Jagganath Rath Yatra 2022 was began near 3pm amid curfew in Udaipur. The procession, which is an annual affair, was carried out in the backdrop of a tense curfew in Udaipur, emanating from the murder of a Hindu tailor by two Muslim youth.

The administration and law enforcers conducted multiple meetings with the stakeholders of the Jagannath Yatra as well as senior representatives of both the affected communities, prior to confirming that the procession will be carried out under full security.

Around 10 thousand people participated in the procession, which was carried out after a gap of two COVID lockdown influenced years. The Rath Yatra is a replica of the big rath yatra being carried out at Puri in Orrisa. The procession, which is carried out along 6 km, begins and ends at Jagdish Mandir, which is in the walled city area.

In an update to UT, Dinesh MN said, "We are aming to bring the situation back to normal, lift the curfew so that things will get normal and as Udaipur is a tourist city, a message will be conveyed to the tourists that they can visit the city and enjoy themselves as always".

On the other hand Mujeeb Siddique the Chief of the Anjuman Talimul Islam Udaipur chapter said, "Our community members obeyed administrative orders and remained indoors and even offered the Friday Namaz (Prayers) inside our houses, as we all want the the city to become peacefull once again."

Heavy downpour in Udaipur, especially in the walled city area, did not dampen the spirits of the procession and the Yatra proceeded on its route under heavy security and enthusiastic participation.
