The latest regulatory updates from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) have been unveiled in the form of the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Amendment Regulations, 2024. These fresh changes mark a significant evolution in the Aadhaar system, introducing new guidelines for enrolment and updates.

Effective on January 16, 2024, the 12-digit unique Aadhaar number can be effortlessly updated through both online and offline. UIDAI has introduced user-friendly methods for enrolling and updating Aadhaar information. Simplified forms have been specifically made for residents and non-residents (NRIs) to facilitate easy Aadhaar enrolment and updates.

Form 1: Enrolment and Updating of Aadhaar

Anyone 18 years and older, whether a resident or non-resident Indian (NRI), can utilize this form to apply for an Aadhaar number. Just ensure you have an Indian address proof. You can also use the same form to update your Aadhaar details.

Form 2: NRIs

NRIs with an address proof outside India can use this form for both enrolling and updating their details.

Forms 3 to 6: For Kids

Forms 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 are now available for enrolling and updating information for children of different age groups, whether they are residents or NRIs. 

• Form 3 is for kids aged 5 to under 18, whether they are residents or NRIs, and it is applicable for those with an Indian address proof.
• Form 4 is designed for NRI children aged 5 to under 18 who don't have Indian address proof.
• Form 5 is for resident Indian children under five years old with an Indian address proof. 
• Form 6 is meant for NRI children below five years with proof of address outside India.
• Form 7 is for resident foreign nationals aged 18 and above. To enroll or update their Aadhaar card, they need a foreign passport, OCI card, valid long-term Indian visa, and an email ID.
• Form 8 is for resident foreign nationals under 18, meant for both enrollment and updating details.
• Form 9 is used for canceling an Aadhaar number upon turning 18. 

According to the updated guidelines, UIDAI now requires documentary proof for declared or approximate ages. This is aimed at ensuring that Aadhaar cards display the complete and accurate date of birth, enhancing overall accuracy and authenticity, as per UIDAI's statement. According to UIDAI, you can enroll for Aadhaar or update details using document verification or confirmation by the Head of Family (HoF). If the HoF is doing it, they need to give their Aadhaar details and sign Form 1. 

NRIs should provide an email ID for Aadhaar. If they give a non-Indian mobile number, they won't receive any SMS, as mentioned in Form 1 guidelines.

The recent revisions aim to simplify the enrolment process for both residents and non-residents. Under the new rules, applicants now have the convenience of updating their information in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) through either a visit to the enrolment center or by using the website/mobile application.

Earlier, the rules, introduced in 2016, provided only for updation of addresses in online mode.  The 2016 rules did not allow updation of documents or information via online form or mobile application. To update other details, the Aadhaar number holder had to visit the enrolment centre.
