Elevated Road in Udaipur - Traders from Ashwani Bazaar Protest on Plan
Branch coming through to Ashwini Bazar will create a bottleneck
- Traders do not want a lane to stream down to Ashwini Bazar
- This is the route of 18 wards, hence during demonstrations at the Collectorate, all the traffic is diverted towards this side
Traders of the Ashwani Bazar Association, have raised objections on the design of the Elevated Road being proposed in the heart of Udaipur. They say that they are not against the elevated road, but if one lane of the elevated road descends into Ashwini Bazar, the road entering this market will become narrow and traffic in this market will also increase.
A meeting of Ashwini Bazar Vyapar Sangh regarding the proposed elevated road in the city was organized under the Chairmanship of the President of the Vyapar Sangh, Jayesh Champawat. President of the Chamber of Commerce and Deputy Mayor Paras Singhvi were also present in this meeting. The participants discussed about one lane of the elevated road coming down to Ashwini Bazar. The traders say that they do not have any opposition to the elevated road, but the one lane that will go down to Ashwini Bazar from the elevated road will narrow the road entering Ashwini Bazar. The traders say that at present, the road to Ashwini Bazar is only 40 to 50 feet wide and if a 20 feet lane also goes down to this market from the elevated road, then only 12 to 13 feet of road will remain on both sides.
When one lane descends to Ashwani Bazar, in such a situation, a vehicle going to Udiapol from the elevated road will go down from this lane and then turn the vehicle and go towards Udiapol, in such a situation, there will be a jam like the Sevashram and Kumharon Ka Bhatta, which has no justification. The traders say that the traffic of 18 wards of the city comes and goes through this road. Also, this is an alternative route to MB Hospital and will also be difficult for ambulance and fire brigades to pass through this route.
They also say that when there is a gathering at the Collectorate, the traffic is diverted towards Ashwini Bazar, which also causes a lot of traffic jam. In such a situation, the situation will become even worse if the lane of the elevated road extends to Ashwani Bazar. The traders say that on one hand the corporation is working to remove bottlenecks in the city and on the other hand it is creating bottlenecks itself. The traders have demanded that before planning the work on the elevated road and the branching lane to Ashwani Bazar, officials should put up barricades here and take a demo for a few days and then take further action, otherwise it should not happen that after making it, it has to be demolished later.
Road over the Aayad river
Jayesh Champawat suggested that the Municipal Corporation and UDA should instead considering building a road over the Ayad river and wherever there are culverts. A road should be made to go up and down so that the problem of traffic jam in the city is resolved. Champawat said that the Ayad river beigns from Thur and goes all the way till Kaladwas, due to which people will get a new route across entire city as well as in the rural areas.
