Banswara district is set to elevate its status through a unique initiative highlighting its ancient culture and geographical significance. Led by Dr. Niraj K. Pawan, the regional commissioner, an effort is underway to install signboards at key locations in Banswara and Dungarpur districts, where the Tropic of Cancer passes through. This project aims to draw attention to the region's distinctive position and boost tourism.
Dr. Niraj K. Pawan expressed pride in the district's rare distinction of hosting the Tropic of Cancer, emphasizing that this fact remains relatively unknown among locals. To promote this geographical uniqueness globally, the initiative includes placing informative signboards strategically across Banswara, particularly in areas with tourism potential. The project involves collaboration between district experts and local authorities to ensure effective implementation.
Recent developments in the region include the inauguration of Maharana Pratap Setu (Gaiman Bridge) spanning the Mahi River, alongside the establishment of a board near Aditya Marble in Banswara's industrial area. These efforts are supported by retired Professor Rupashankar Upadhyay, Prerana Upadhyay, Development Officer Bapulal Yadav, and local administration officials.
According to GIS map expert Viranch Dave, the Tropic of Cancer crosses approximately 23 degrees north latitude, spanning a total of 109.45 kilometers in Rajasthan's Banswara and Dungarpur districts. In Banswara alone, it covers 72.02 kilometers, with an additional 37.43 kilometers in Dungarpur. Using advanced GIS technology, tourist spots along this line in Vagad have been identified and marked for visitors.
District Magistrate Dr. Pawan announced that a team of experts has compiled a list of significant tourist destinations near the cancer line. Boards will soon be installed at these locations based on GPS coordinates. The places include Chhatrasalpur, Theekariya, Bodla, Borvat, Gamdi, Chaibis Ka Parda, Umarai Tripura Sundari, Shambhupura, Patan, Jalda, Kunwaria, Amja, Timurwa, Jaulana, Raiyana, Odavada, Thali Talai, Hardmatiya Hanumanji, Arthuna, Kushalkot, Ubli, Gariyata, Nadia Shri Ram Temple, Sendola, and nearby areas. Adjustments may be made to this list based on location suitability.
The installation of signboards is expected to be completed soon, marking a significant step towards promoting Banswara as a distinctive destination on India's tourism map.
