Brothers get Life Imprisonment in Bhilwara Gang Rape - Bhatti case
On Monday, 20 May, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Court No. 2 of Bhilwara district sentenced to Death, the two accused in the infamous Bhilwara Gang Rape and Murder case of 2023. The victim, a minor girl, was gang raped by Kalu and Kanha, two brothers and thrown into an open Coal Furnace (Bhatti) and burnt alive on 2 August 2023.
The POCSO Court declared the two brothers Kalu Ram and Kanha, the main accused, guilty on Saturday 18 May, while acquitting the seven others who were named in the FIR by the victim's family. The Judge had kept the verdict reserved and pronounced the same on Monday, 20 May, classifying it as the rarest of the rare cases, leading to Capital Punishment for the two main accused.
The parents of the victim girl were also present at the Court when the Judge announced the verdict and they appreciated the decision of the Court.
The prosecution presented statements from 43 witnesses, with 42 supporting its evidence, said Special Public Prosecutor Mahavir Kanhawat.
Those acquitted by the court include the mother, sisters and wives of the accused.
