Udaipur: Contractor ignores boat removal order of Municipal Corporation
Municipal Corporation have asked different contractor for solar-powered boats...
News about using eco-friendly boats to clean lakes was circulated. The Municipal Corporation cancelled contracts with hotels and opened a new opportunity for solar-powered boats. The top bidder, breaking rules, got blacklisted and they called in another bidder. The Municipal Corporation told the old contractor to take out the petrol and diesel boats from the lake within 24 hours.
Following this when the corporation's team visited the lakes, the boats were just moved to the middle of the lakes and the old contractor asked for more time. Since the boats didn't come out in a day or two, the corporation will get another agency to remove them. Also, they have asked a different contractor, who uses solar-powered boats, to help, because they blacklisted the first contractor.
Hotel owners are running more than 50 petrol and diesel boats on lakes because the government only limited government boats. The company wanted to cancel their contracts, but the State Lake Development Authority ignored it, letting hotels keep using boats. Until a new rule is made, the authority said these boats can run normally, despite locals suggesting changes through Jaipur. Even though the High Court recommended eco-friendly boats, the authority hasn't talked about it, so hotels are still using petrol and diesel boats.
