RBI Warns Against Deepfake Videos of Governor Das
November 20, 2024 - The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a warning about deepfake videos circulating online. These videos falsely feature RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and use advanced AI technology to create misleading visuals.
The videos are being used to spread false information. They claim that the RBI Governor is supporting certain investment schemes. However, the RBI has clarified that no officials, including Governor Das, are involved in or support these claims.
In a statement released on November 19, 2024, the RBI urged people to be cautious. It advised them to verify any information through official sources before making any investment decisions based on these videos.
This incident follows a similar event in July. The Bombay High Court had directed social media platforms to remove deepfake videos. In those, the CEO of the National Stock Exchange was falsely shown giving stock recommendations.
