On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Judge Devendra Puri was injured when the ceiling plaster in the ACJM-1 South Court fell down for the second time in two years. The accident happened around 1:40 PM on the first floor at Neem Chowk in the court complex. Judge Puri was in his chamber having lunch when the plaster collapsed, causing internal injuries. He was taken to MB Hospital for treatment.
The ceiling's collapse was due to weakened areas from continuous rainfall. Despite previous complaints to the Public Works Department (PWD), no repairs were made.
Prakash Jain, a reader from the court, has filed a case at Bhupalpura Police Station against PWD officials and the contractor. The case alleges poor construction and misuse of public funds.
In August 2022, a similar incident occurred in the same chamber. Back then, the PWD reported a repair cost of Rs 7.43 lakh and completed repairs after receiving a budget from the High Court. The new report accuses officials and the contractor of substandard work.
