The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has designated an eco-sensitive zone in Phulwari ki Naal Sanctuary. An area extending up to 0-1 km from Sanctuary is included, covering a total of 202.34 square kms. This decision was announced on May 17 and affects 127 panchayats in Kotda and Jhadol tehsils.

Commercial Construction Prohibited

Last year, the Forest Department proposed creating this eco-sensitive zone. As a result, commercial construction, including hotels and resorts, will be prohibited within 1 km of the sanctuary. Any existing hotels and resorts built without permission will face action. The natural rivers and streams in the area will be conserved.

Sanctuary Home to Wildlife

Phulwari ki Naal Sanctuary spans 511 square kilometers and was declared a sanctuary on October 6, 1983. It is home to wildlife such as Hyenas, Leopards, Honey Badgers, Jungle Fowl, Crocodiles, Rose-Ringed Parakeets, and Indian balloon frogs.

Eco-Sensitive Zone Regulations Lacking

Despite the central government's efforts, enforcement of eco-sensitive zone regulations is doubtful. In the Sajjangarh Sanctuary eco-sensitive zone, numerous hotels operate without permission, and similar issues are seen in Phulwari ki Naal. Influential individuals involvement often prevents the administration from taking action against unauthorized constructions.
