Administration's Efforts to Protect Udaipur's Lakes and Ponds Fall Short

District Collector established a committee to investigate prohibited construction activities in and around submerged areas

Efforts by the administration to protect Udaipur's lakes and ponds are failing to show results on the ground. Officials are holding meetings and discussing opportunities, but there is little action being taken.

Illegal Road Construction Bedla Khurd

The administrative committee, formed to investigate construction work in lake and pond areas, has not achieved any significant results. Questions remain unanswered about its effectiveness. Moreover, there has been no action taken regarding the construction of a road over a drain connected to the pond in Bedla Khurd.

In Bedla Khurd, UDA reported last week that a road was built over a drain without proper approval. In response, Commissioner Rahul Jain issued a notice to the colonizer, but no further action has occurred.

This road construction places pipes in the middle of the drain that carries water from the Lakhawali pond, allowing access to nearby plots. Currently, water flows slowly through these pipes, but during the rainy season, it rushes into the Ayad River. Residents had previously complained about this issue to the collector, but no actions were taken after officials inspected the site.

Rundela Pond Property Damage

Despite instructions from the district collector, no FIR has been filed concerning the damage caused to government property due to the demolition of the bund of Rundela Pond. Officials are delaying matters, citing busy schedules related to the President's visit and other responsibilities.

District Collector Formed Committee

On September 24, District Collector Arvind Poswal established a committee to investigate prohibited construction activities in and around submerged areas. The committee was asked to submit a report within a week. However, two weeks have passed since its formation, and no report has been made public.

During this time, the District Collector inspected several lakes and ponds, raising hopes for prompt action. Unfortunately, no significant measures have been taken yet.
