Elevated Road Foundation Laid

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria says the project will usher in a new era of development for the city

 

Udaipur, November 19, 2024: The foundation-laying ceremony for the two-lane elevated road in the city was held yesterday at the Nagar Nigam premises. Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria led the ceremony which was attended by several dignitaries. Governor Kataria inaugurated the project by performing traditional rituals and unveiling a digital foundation plaque.

After the ceremony, Governor Kataria addressed the gathering saying that Udaipur has immense potential for development and that the roads being developed, including the elevated road and the third and fourth phases of the Dewas Project, will usher in a new era of development for the city. He added that Udaipur has been blessed abundantly by Nature and it was the collective responsibility of its residents to preserve and advance this legacy. The dream of bringing water from the Arabian Sea to Udaipur, envisioned years ago, is being realised through the Dewas Project, he said and that the elevated road, currently a pressing need for the city, is another dream turning into reality after a prolonged effort.

The Governor urged those involved in the project to maintain high standards to ensure that the end product will serve generations to come.

Rajya Sabha MP Chunnilal Garasia, Lok Sabha MP Dr Mannalal Rawat, Udaipur city MLA Tarachand Jain and Udaipur rural MLA Phoolsingh Meena also addressed the gathering.

The elevated road, approximately 2.7 kilometres long, will stretch from the City Railway Station to Bansi Pan, located beyond the Collector's bungalow at Court Chauraha. Nagar Nigam had floated a tender worth Rs 179.14 crore for the project, with the estimated cost in the DPR pegged at Rs 208 crore. Of the 12 bidding agencies, Transrail Lighting Private Limited was awarded the work at its bid price of Rs 136.89 crore.

Mayor Govind Singh Tank welcomed the guests and provided a detailed overview of the elevated road project. The guests were honoured with traditional uparnas (shawls), turbans and floral bouquets.

The ceremony was also attended by social activist Ravindra Shrimali, Chandragupt Singh Chauhan, District Collector Arvind Poswal, UDA Commissioner Rahul Jain, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ram Prakash and SP Yogesh Goyal among others.
