Fatehsagar Overflow Gates Raised: All the Lakes in Udaipur are Filled to the Brim

All four gates have been raised to 6 inches

The overflow gates of Fatehsagar Lake at Udaipur were raised in the afternoon on 7 September, marking an end to the long wait for the residents of the city.

Following moderate to heavy rains in the last fortnight, the water reservoirs of Udaipur have received incessant flow of water from the water bodies and from the Aravalis enveloping the City of Lakes. While the gates of Swaroop Sagar and Udaisagar as well as Badi Lake were opened in succession in the past week, the lake at the heart of the city, Fatehsagar, was still awaiting its turn. The last few inches of water that were led to the overflow filled the lake today morning, after which the Water department and the city administration took the call to raise the gates to manage the inflow of water. The gates were opened in the presence of District Colletor Arvind Poswal and other administrative officials. A large gathering of people was seen in the area, witnessing the event.

The water from the overflow will traverse along the Ayad River, which is already getting enough water directly from Madar and the Swaroop Sagar overflow. This water flows to Udaisagar, which is around 15km from Udaipur. Meanwhile Badi Lake, which rarely fills and overflows, has recorded yet its overflow for the season a couple of days ago, bringing enough and more water into the adjacent Badi Village and Hawala village, leading to blocking of roads temporarily. All this excess water also flows into Fatehsagar.

The District Collector, in his messsage on the occasion, congratulated the residents of Udaipur and also added a word of caution against any sort of adventure in the ongoing monsoon.
