On Monday, September 16, 2024, Punjab Governor Gulabchand Kataria inaugurated two newly constructed fiber elephants at the City Palace. These elephant models depict ancient battle training practices of elephants.

During the ceremony, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria highlighted the historical significance of elephants in Mewar, referencing Maharana Pratap’s elephant, Ramprasad, who fought valiantly against Akbar’s forces and chose death over surrender. He praised the unique tradition of elephant warfare in Mewar and acknowledged Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar for his role in preserving this heritage.

Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar explained that elephants were crucial in Mewar’s military history, with training in combat and riding being a longstanding tradition. The City Palace's elephant arena reflects this heritage, and the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation Trust has created these fiber elephants to educate future generations. Sculpted by artist Fakir Charan Parida, the models aim to showcase the historical importance of elephants in Mewar’s legacy.
