Pichola Lakeside's Hotels and Restaurants Failed to Install Grease Chambers
Udaipur Municipal Corporation has issued notices to some hotels and restaurants along Lake Pichola, directing them to install grease chambers within 7 days. Despite this, most have not complied.
Clogged Sewer Lines
As a result, kitchen waste from these establishments continues to flow directly into the lake. This issue has led to clogged sewer lines along the lakeside, with wastewater discharging directly into them. The accumulation of oil and grease is causing blockages, which in turn is causing water to spill onto the streets.
Hotels Causing Lake Pollution
The corporation had previously given a 7-day deadline to 55 hotel and restaurant operators for installing grease chambers. However, many did not follow through. Smart City Limited reported that 174 hotels and restaurants are operating near Lake Pichola, with numerous operators still lacking grease chambers.
In response, the municipal commissioner has instructed all health officers to check for grease chambers in all hotels. Additionally, hotels without grease chambers have been given another 7-day deadline to install them, but compliance remains a concern.
