Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that India will provide Turkey with "all possible assistance" in dealing with the devastating earthquake that struck the country early on February 6, 2023. 

The decision to assist Turkey was made at a meeting led by P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, and attended by the Cabinet Secretary and representatives from relevant Ministries. India has sent the first shipment of quake relief supplies to Turkey onboard an Indian Air Force aircraft, hours after the announcement was made by the PM Modi's office.

The package included a professional National Disaster Response Force search and rescue team with both male and female members, highly trained dog squads, a variety of medical supplies, cutting-edge drilling equipment, and other essential help instruments.

In recent years, India's relations with Turkey have been tenuous, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government frequently siding with Pakistan and criticizing India over the Kashmir issue. However, on Monday, India joined many other countries, including Israel, in expressing solidarity with the victims of the massive earthquake in Turkey. 

First Sunel, the Turkish ambassador to India, thanked the Indian government for its offer of support and said that "a friend in need is a friend indeed."
