In response to the Rajasthan government's decision to establish a new district, the Rajasthan police is actively pursuing an increase in the number of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. Officials have disclosed that the Rajasthan Police recently made a formal request to the government, urging them to augment the IPS cadre in the state by appointing an additional 19 IPS officers. The expansion of the IPS cadre in Rajasthan has become an urgent necessity due to the current presence of approximately 200 IPS officers serving in the state, including those on central deputation. This need is justified by the increasing operational demands and the evolving landscape of the state.

According to a senior police official, the planned establishment of new districts in Rajasthan requires additional resources, despite the existing shortfall. Furthermore, the Rajasthan Police envisions the implementation of the police commissionerate system in other major cities in the future, which would also necessitate the recruitment of new IPS officers.

“There are already new OSDs in 15 newly announced districts, we also need additional IPS officers for assignments.” - An official. 

Reliable sources indicate that once the notification for new districts in Rajasthan is confirmed, substantial changes are anticipated in the police areas. Alongside regular field postings, the Rajasthan Police manages various specialized units, including the anti-corruption bureau, special operations groups, anti-terrorist squad, intelligence department, and CID-CB. These units perform crucial roles in ensuring the maintenance of law and order, combating corruption, executing specialized operations, countering terrorism, gathering intelligence, and conducting investigations into criminal activities within the state. 

“Existing police districts could be amalgamated or bifurcated, resulting in similar changes. As a result, there will be a pressing need for additional officers in Rajasthan.” - The official said.
