Kolkata Rape-Murder: CBI Names Former RG Kar Hospital Principal in Corruption Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has named Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in a corruption FIR. The agency is investigating alleged financial irregularities during Ghosh's tenure.
Dr. Ghosh is charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating, and unlawful acceptance of gratification. These charges fall under non-bailable and cognizable offenses, according to a senior lawyer from the Calcutta High Court.
In related news, the prime accused of the Kolkata rape-murder case, Sanjay Roy, underwent a polygraph test on Sunday, August 25,2024 at Kolkata’s Presidency Central Jail. This test is crucial in determining if the case involved a gang rape or a single perpetrator.
On the same day, CBI officials conducted searches at Dr. Ghosh's residence and other locations in Kolkata. A new video showing Dr. Ghosh and others in a seminar room, where a junior doctor’s body was found earlier this month, has sparked allegations of evidence tampering from opposition parties and the victim’s family.
Jagannath Chattopadhyay, BJP West Bengal general secretary, has aid, “The video clearly shows outsiders roaming around in what is called the place of occurrence. Why did the police allow them inside the seminar room where the rape and murder took place? It is clear that the evidence has been destroyed.”
Indira Mookherjee, Deputy Commissioner of Police, defended the police actions, saying, “The area was cordoned off using curtains immediately after the body was found. No one apart from the family was allowed within 40 feet of the PO.”
