Udaipur, 17 October 2024 – In a tragic incident yesterday, October 16, in the village of Bada Madar in Udaipur district, a leopard attacked two women working in a soyabean field, injuring them. One of the injured, Mangi Bai, later succumbed to her injuries. This marks the ninth death in the district due to a leopard.

The incident took place around 12:30 pm when both women were working in the field. Suddenly, a leopard sprang from the bushes and attacked them. On hearing their cries, Mangi Bai's son Ganesh, who was working nearby, rushed to the spot and managed to chase the animal away.

The local administration and the Forest Department were informed about the attack.

Later, Ganesh recounted that his mother, Mangi Bai, and his wife were both working in the soybean field. Suddenly, he heard his wife screaming and on rushing to the spot, he saw her lying injured on the ground while a leopard was attacking his mother. Showing courage, he quickly grabbed a stick lying nearby and ran towards the leopard. The animal fled but returned to attack. This time Ganesh chased it off into the bushes.

With the help of villagers, Ganesh rushed the injured women to Udaipur’s MB Hospital where his mother passed away during treatment.

Meanwhile, the search for the man-eater leopard, which has killed several people in Udaipur, is still on. Officials say they are employing various strategies to track down the animal and are combing the forests around the Gogunda area.
