Lion Safari in Udaipur to Open in July

Construction of lion enclosure underway at Sajjangarh Biological Park

At Sajjangarh Biological Park in Udaipur, the lion safari enclosures is making rapid progress. Expected to be completed by July, these enclosures will house a pair of majestic lions brought from Junagadh, Gujarat. While the initial approval is for a pair of lions, the enclosure's capacity is being designed for eight lions. After the arrival of the first pair, additional lions from various zoos will join them.

With a budget of Rs 3.45 crores, the Forest Department is spearheading the development of the lion safari. Covering 26 hectares, the enclosure will feature a holding area for the lions and a designated viewing space for visitors. Separate tickets will be available for the safari, with pricing details to be determined by the Forest Department committee.

Earlier this year, approval was granted to bring a male and a female lion from Junagadh to Udaipur. Following this, the tender process for necessary works, including enclosure construction, was finalized. Initially estimated to take seven months, the construction is now on track to finish by July, exceeding expectations. The Central Zoo Authority has  given approval this.
