Mass Shooting in New York Nightclub, 11 Injured

This incident follows a series of attacks in the US during New Year celebrations including the deadly Orleans attack which killed 15 and the Tesla Cybertruck explosion which left one dead

January 2, 2025 – A mass shooting at a nightclub in Queens, New York, yesterday, January 1 has left 11 people injured. Fortunately, none of the injuries are life-threatening. The incident occurred at around 11:00 pm. The first investigation report said that around 90 people were inside the nightclub. Outside, around 15 people were lined up to get an entry into the club.

A New York Police Department (NYPD) executive told the media: “Three to four men opened fire more than thirty times in the direction of a group standing outside the venue, striking multiple victims. All victims are expected to recover with non-life-threatening injuries…There is zero tolerance for these senseless shootings. It is a horrible act of violence on our streets, and those responsible for this crime will be apprehended and brought to justice.”

In an earlier incident in New Orleans, a US Army veteran slammed his pickup truck into a crowd of revelers who were celebrating New Year’s Eve. The attack took place at around 3:00 am Wednesday while some people were still partying. The attacker drove his vehicle around a police blockade and into the crowd killing 15 people before being shot dead by the police. He has been identified as Shamsud-din Jabbar (42) from Texas. The FBI is investigating what is being dubbed as a “terror attack.” Before the incident, Jabbar had posted videos on social media describing his desire to kill as he was inspired by the Islamic State group.

In a separate incident in Las Vegas, a rented Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel (belonging to US President-elect Donald Trump) on January 1 morning. One person inside the vehicle died and seven were injured. Firework mortars and camp fuel canisters were found stuffed into the back of the vehicle raising suspicion of it being a potential act of terrorism.

Elon Musk, Tesla CEO said that the explosion was "caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck." He clarified that it was "unrelated to the vehicle itself”, and "something we've never seen before."
