Minor Adjustments in Elevated Road Plans
Elevated road project moves forward...
Udaipur Municipal Corporation is moving ahead with plans to build an elevated road, despite opposition and controversies from some of its own members. A tender worth Rs 190 crore has already been issued for the project, and the old plan has been modified. The Corporation aims to start construction before the end of the year, ahead of proposed municipal elections.
Road Length Increased
Initially, the elevated road was to be built from City Station to the Collector's Bungalow. However, the plan has now been changed. The road will now extend from City Station to Banshi Paan Tiraha, increasing its length by 185 meters. Previously, the road's length from City Railway Station to the Collector's residence was set at 2,570 meters. With the new plan, it will be extended to 2,755 meters.
Ashwini Bazaar No Longer a Part of the Project
The Municipal Corporation has also reconsidered another part of the plan due to opposition from local traders. The plan to have one end of the one-way elevated road land on Ashwini Bazaar Road has been postponed. Instead, this end will now land on MB Hospital Road from Court Chouraha. This segment will be 420 meters long and is likely to descend past the Hanuman Temple located along this route.
Road Making in Progress
The elevated road project, valued at Rs 210 crores, is making progress with funding and planning steps now underway. The Municipal Corporation and UDA will each contribute Rs 75 crores, while the state government will provide the remaining Rs 60 crores.
Currently, the Municipal Corporation has issued a tender for Rs 190 crores, which will cover the civil work for the project. An additional Rs 20 crores will be allocated for tasks such as installing electric poles and lighting.
Tenders Opening for the Project
Starting August 14, contracting companies can apply for the project through an online portal. The deadline for submitting tenders is September 18, 2024 with tenders to be opened the following day, September 19, 2024. The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode.
The winning contractor will need to provide a detailed construction design within one month of offering the lowest bid. Mukesh Pujari, the Municipal Corporation's Superintending Engineer, noted a minor adjustment to the previously finalized design, resulting in a slight change in the road's length. The construction will only commence after the agency submits the complete blueprint.
