MLSU delays college access for election purpose before November 8

Hindering electoral prep

The Mohanlal Sukhadia University (MLSU) Arts College in Udaipur was taken over for election-related activities from September 15, 2023, until December 3, 2023. This disrupted the studies of about 3,000 students for roughly two and a half months. After November 8,2023, Professor Sunita Mishra, the Vice-Chancellor, has established the University Office's operating hours from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. This decision is in compliance with the directives issued by the Governor. According to her, the college building will only be handed over after the visit of the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) team, scheduled from November 6 to 8, 2023.

Chancellor Professor Mishra has previously stated that the university has not received 'NAAC Grading' for the past four years. This grading is crucial for the affiliated colleges and approximately 1.90 lakh students who are enrolled in them. The absence of this grading has resulted in students not receiving their marksheets for the past two years, which is having a negative impact on the university's reputation. To address this issue, the Chancellor has been making preparations for a 'NAAC Inspection' over the past month.

In the midst of these developments, the contractor designated for election-related tasks has communicated with the administration, expressing concern that unless they receive the designated 11,000 square feet area for the college by November 2, they will be unable to prepare it adequately for election-related activities. This predicament has posed a significant challenge to the District Election Department. In response, a prompt and vital measure was taken as District Collector Arvind Poswal convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday, 1 November, 2023. During this meeting, it is expected that decisions will be deliberated upon and possibly reached to address the situation effectively.

The District Collector, Poswal, has clarified that there will be no restrictions even during the adoption process if the 'NAAC Team' wishes to inspect the college's infrastructure and resources. If the University administration desires, they can conduct inspections even after December 5, 2023, but it will not affect any changes related to election tasks. It is worth noting that besides the Arts College in Udaipur, there is no suitable building for polling.
