Udaipur Municipal Corporation cleared small encroachments rather than big obstructions
Anti-Encroachment drive failed at two locations in the city...
The Municipal Corporation has deployed bulldozers in different zones of Udaipur city to tackle the problem of encroachments. On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, after conducting operations at two locations in the city, the encroachment drive failed to become effective at one site, returning without achieving any results.
There was a counter missing from Vidyarthi Ras Bhandar near Shakti Nagar in Delhi Gate. Later, it was put back. The owner, Durgesh Kumawat, confirmed that he is related to Mayor Govind Singh Tank and claimed that the shop and counter don't create any issues on the road since they are far from the main road.
Observing the vulnerable state of the corporation, another encroacher gained confidence. Immediately after the squad's unsuccessful operation, this individual resumed construction activities. Meanwhile, there is speculation in the city that the corporation's actions may be merely symbolic or for show.
Over the last ten days, rather than clearing away big obstructions, quick actions like building stairs and sidewalks have been removed from small shops and street stalls. Unfortunately, people in the city haven't seen much improvement yet. The city's government has a plan to clear encroachments from main areas until February 26, 2024. Every day, they are working in different parts of the city to make this happen.
