The Supreme Court of India has refused to issue a stay on NEET counselling and has also declined to order an immediate CBI probe into alleged discrepancies in this year's NEET exam.

Earlier, on June 14, 2024, the court had issued notices to the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding a plea that requested a CBI investigation into allegations of question paper leaks and other irregularities in NEET UG 2024.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta issued notices to parties on the NTA's plea seeking to transfer related petitions from various high courts to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is set to consider the NTA’s petition on July 8, 2024.

Several petitions have been submitted to both high courts and the Supreme Court, raising concerns about paper leaks, grace marks, and a significant increase in high scores.

On June 13, 2024, the Centre informed the Supreme Court of its decision to cancel the scorecards of 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who had been awarded grace marks. These students will be given the opportunity to take a re-test, scheduled for June 23, 2024. The NEET counselling sessions are set to begin on July 6, 2024.

Following the Supreme Court hearing, the Centre stated that the affected students would soon be notified of their revised scores, which will exclude the previously awarded grace marks. These students will then have the option to opt for a re-examination.
