New Guidelines for OTT Platforms to Curb Obscenity in Films

The new guidelines will require offensive scenes or language to be blurred

Amid increasing concerns over obscenity in the film industry, the central government has decided to issue new guidelines regarding films and series shown on Over The Top (OTT) platforms. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will implement these guidelines to regulate the depiction of nudity, obscenity, and abusive language.

The new guidelines will require offensive scenes or language to be blurred, beeped, or altered in dialogues before presentation. This initiative follows three months of consultations with various stakeholders, including companies and individuals involved in OTT film production. The aim is to ensure compliance with legal provisions related to the respect of women, allowing filmmakers to tell their stories without violating these standards.

While the guidelines will not be mandatory, filmmakers will be required to submit an affidavit to the Censor Board and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, confirming that these standards have been adhered to during the film production process.
