NEET UG admission deadline has been extended to December 30

Latest NEET UG Hearing

Udaipur, December 21,2024 - The Supreme Court has extended the deadline for NEET UG admissions to December 30, 2024. This decision comes because many medical seats are still empty after 5 rounds of counseling. The Court made this decision as a special measure, stating that it should not set a precedent for future admissions.

The reason for the extension is that the country is facing a shortage of doctors, and the Court doesn’t want these important medical seats to remain vacant. The Court has ordered that a fresh counseling process be held to fill these vacant seats. This process should be completed before December 30.

Importantly:

  1. Colleges cannot admit students on their own. Only state admission authorities can handle the admissions.

  2. This special admission process will not affect the students who have already been admitted.

  3. Only candidates who are on the waitlist will be considered for these vacant seats.

  4. If any NRI (Non-Resident Indian) seats remain vacant, they will be changed to general category seats.

"The Admission Authorities are, therefore, directed to hold a fresh stray/special counselling for the seats remaining vacant and complete the admission process prior to 30.12.2024 in any eventuality. It is further directed that no college would be permitted to admit the students directly and admission should be conducted only through the State Admission Authorities."

"Taking into consideration the peculiar facts and circumstances and further that the precious medical seats should not go in waste, when the country is facing acute shortage of Doctors, we are inclined to extend the period by way of a last chancesaid the Court.
