Noel Tata Appointed Chairman of Tata Trusts

The 66-year-old half brother of the late Ratan Tata was unanimously elected by the board

 

Noel Tata, the half-brother of Ratan Tata, has been named the chairman of Tata Trusts, following a board meeting this morning (October 11). Tata Trusts is the charitable division of the Tata Group. Ratan Tata, the erstwhile chairman of Tata Trusts, passed away in Mumbai on October 9 at the age of 86.

The 66-year-old Noel Tata is the son of Naval H. Tata and Simone N. Tata and has been the trustee in four of the trusts that comprise Tata Trusts. The board unanimously appointed Noel Tata as chairman with immediate effect.

Noel Tata serves as a trustee for both the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. Together, these trusts hold a significant 66% share in Tata Sons, the parent company of the diverse Tata Group.

He is the chairman and non-executive director of Tata International Limited and has been with the Tata group for 40 years. Noel Tata is the vice-chairman of Tata Steel and Titan Company Ltd. His other board positions positions within the group, include chairman of Trent, Voltas and Tata Investment Corporation. As Managing Director of Tata International Limited, he led the company through a period of impressive growth, with revenue rising from $500 million to over $3 billion between August 2010 and November 2021.

Noel Tata released a statement following the appointment saying: “I am deeply honoured and humbled by the responsibility that has been cast on me by my fellow Trustees.
