About 90 km from the city, Pulwari Ki Nal Sanctuary is set to become a Chousingha (Four-horned antelope) Breeding Center. Enclosures are being built in the Ambasa area of the sanctuary for this purpose. In May, Pulwari Sanctuary was declared an Eco-Sensitive Zone, banning commercial activities within 1 km of its boundary. Located near the Gujarat border, the sanctuary attracts many tourists from Gujarat each weekend.

Animal Exchange Program

Next year, Chousinghas will be brought from another sanctuary under the Animal Exchange Program. They will be settled in these new enclosures. The goal is to increase their numbers through breeding and eventually release them into the wild. This effort will boost wildlife populations and promote eco-tourism.

Enclosures Prepared 

The sanctuary already houses leopards, deer, bears, and flying squirrels. For the Chousinghas, enclosures have been specially prepared with an investment of Rs 82 lakh, covering 3.68 hectares.

A similar enclosure is in use at Jaisamand Sanctuary for chital (spotted deer) breeding. Work on the Ambasa project began last October. Soon, staff rooms will be built to house and monitor the wildlife.

With the new Chousinghas enclosures, the sanctuary aims to increase the numbers of other wildlife species as well. This is expected to boost tourism and offer nature lovers the chance to see wildlife in their natural habitats.
