Residents Complain of Stinky Water at Manji Ka Ghat

Concerns rise over water quality in Lake Pichola

After reports of deteriorating water quality in Lake Pichola, officials from Smart City and the Udaipur Municipal Corporation, along with experts, visited the site on October 23, 2024. Their inspection raised significant concerns regarding the water supplying to the inner city and surrounding areas.

Inspection Findings

During the site visit, officials discovered varying water quality. They found milky water in one location, black water in another, and yellow water in yet another area. Residents bathing in the Manji Ka Ghat area reported a foul smell coming from the water.

Specific Areas of Concern

The worst water quality was observed near Manji Temple, where the water was milky. This water appeared to be coming from behind the temple, raising the possibility of a sewer leak. However, officials inspected the nearby pump station and found no leakage. Further down, in Chandpole, the water was black, and near Amarkund, it was yellow. At Manji Temple, many residents complained about a strong foul smell in the water.

In light of these findings, officials have assured residents that efforts are underway to provide clean water soon.

Potential Sources of Pollution

Experts collected water samples for testing to determine the cause of pollution. They aim to find out whether sewage is flowing into the lake, aquatic plants have decayed, or kitchen waste from hotels is contaminating the water.
