Senior Congress Leader, Rahul Gandhi along with other Congress Leaders, party workers and supporters staged a sit-in at Nagaon area of Assam on Monday after he was allegedly stopped from visiting the Batadrava Than, the birth place of saint Srimanta.

According to reports, the incidence took place a day after the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma adviced him to visit the temple after the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to avoid unnecessary competition. 

Gandhi, who is currently at Assam as a part of his 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' said that he was stopped from visiting the place even after being invited. While talking to the media, he claimed that the administration has not given any specific reason for their move. Apparently Rahul Gandhi was invited by the managing committee of the Batadrava Satra Temple, requesting him to schedule his visit after 3pm, taking into consideration the consecration ceremony at Ayodhya.

In a video interview to the media, he can be seen asking the police why he was being stopped.

"What is the issue brother ? Can i go and see the barricades ? What mistake have i made that i am not allowed inside the temple ?"  he said.

He later staged a protest against the  move of the administration. 

What is the Batadrava Than

The Bordowa (Batadrava) Than is a pilgrimage located at Nagaon in Assam. This is the birthplace of the great Assamese saint Srimanta Sankardev, who established this Than in 1468 at the age of 19. The pilgrimage site covering 16 bigha area is located at Batadrava, which is 16km from Nagaon. Bordowa Than has a long history of dispute over its claims of ownership and it was divided into two Satras namely Narowa and Salaguri.
