Rajasthan General Assembly elections were held on November 25,2023. The electoral proceedings in the Karanpur constituency, however, came to a halt due to the unfortunate demise of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Koonar. Voting took place in 199 assembly seats out of the total 200. The Commission has decided to have another election to fill the empty seat in the Karanpur Assembly Constituency of Rajasthan. 

Polling Day Is Set For January 5, 2024

The Gazette Notification for the upcoming election will be issued on December 12, 2023 (Tuesday), marking the beginning of the electoral process. Candidates interested in contesting had until December 19, 2023 (Tuesday) to submit their nominations. The scrutiny of these nominations will take place on December 20, 2023 (Wednesday), followed by a window for withdrawal of candidatures, which will be closed on December 22, 2023 (Friday). The polling day is set for January 5, 2024 (Friday), with the counting of votes scheduled for January 8, 2024 (Monday). The entire election process is expected to conclude by January 10, 2024 (Wednesday).

The Commission has chosen to employ EVMs and VVPATs for the upcoming bye-elections across all polling stations. Enough EVMs and VVPATs have been provided, and necessary measures have been put in place to guarantee a seamless and efficient polling process using these machines. 

The main identification document for voters is the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC). However, alternative identification documents listed below can also be presented at the polling station

1. Aadhar Card
2. MGNREGA Job Card
3. Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office
4. Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour 5 Driving License 
5. PAN Card 
6.  Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR
7.  Indian Passport
8.  Pension document with photograph
9. Service Identity Cards with photographs issued to employees by Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies 
10. Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs
11. Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card, issued by M/o Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

People Will Be Aware Of Candidate’s Criminal Background

Candidates with a criminal history must disclose this information in newspapers and on television three times during the campaign. Political parties fielding such candidates must publish their criminal backgrounds on their websites and in newspapers and on television three times.

The timeframes for disclosing information about candidates with criminal backgrounds are divided into three blocks for the voter’s awareness

1. In the first 4 days after withdrawal. 
2.  From the 5th to the 8th day. 
3. From the 9th day until the last day of the campaign, which is the second day before the poll date.
