Rajasthan’s Rare Earth Element Excellence Centre Likely to Establish in Udaipur
Rajasthan is set to establish a new Rare Earth Element (REE) Excellence Centre to harness its mineral resources. The announcement came from Anandhi, the State’s Mining Secretary. The exact location is yet to be decided, but Udaipur is a likely candidate.
This new centre aims to boost industrial investment, create jobs, and advance technology. Initial REE deposits have been discovered in various districts, including Udaipur, Barmer and Jalore.
Initial signs of Rare Earth Element (REE) deposits have been detected in several districts, including Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Pali, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Nagaur, Ajmer, Jalpur, Neem Ka Thana, Rajsamand, Sikar, and Banswara. Notable REE minerals such as Bastnasite, Brittleite, Synchysite, and Xenotime have been identified in local carbonatites and microgranite rocks.
The centre will support industries such as aerospace and battery technology and reduce reliance on China for REE. It will also enhance domestic processing and refining capabilities, contributing to national self-sufficiency.
Bhagwati Prasad Kalal, director of mines, emphasized that the centre will bring advanced technologies to REE exploration and mining, transforming the state's mineral sector. The initiative has received support from organizations like GSI and Indian Rare Earth Ltd.
